My approach to therapy is integrative and I draw on different theories based on the needs of my client. In my work with adolescents and adults, I utilized a Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) approach. CBT allows for the identification of negative thoughts, feelings and behaviors that are affecting your view of yourself, others and the world around you. In recognizing the impact of your negative belief system and how these beliefs developed, only then can you allow yourself to change. I also utilize expressive therapy techniques (art and sandtray) and Emotional Freedom Therapy (EFT).
In my work with children, I utilized child centered play therapy (CCPT) techniques as well as directive approaches in order to better understand your child and lead them to a healthier way of living. Since very few children can talk about their problems or what is bothering them, the use of child play therapy allows them to play things out. I also incorporate parents and siblings in the therapy process; after all, a child is part of the family system.
In addition, I utilize Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR). EMDR has been proven to help in the treatment of trauma, post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), anxiety, depression, addictions, disturbing memories, grief and much more.
