Individual Therapy

Is life not going the way you imaged it?  Maybe you’re feeling stressed, overwhelmed, anxious, sad and a multitude of other emotions or even numb to any emotions.  Well, you are not alone!  It’s common to feel these things in today’s society.  Therapy is a safe space to explore growth and healing.  In my work with individuals, I take a holistic approach to mental health.  Not only do I look at your emotional and mental wellbeing but also your physical and spiritual wellbeing.

For your emotional and mental health, my approach to therapy is integrative.  In my work with adolescents and adults, I utilize Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT).  CBT allows for the identification of negative thoughts, feelings and behaviors. These thoughts are affecting your view of yourself, others and the world around you. In recognizing the impact of your negative belief system and how these beliefs developed, only then can you allow yourself to change.  While this is the framework that I use, I tailor my counseling based on the needs of my client.

Gut

For your physical health, research has shown there is a connection between our digestive system and our brain, aka the Gut-Brain Axis.  It’s estimated that approximately 90% of serotonin and 50% of dopamine is produced in the digestive track.  Serotonin and dopamine are neurotransmitters that help regulate mood.  They are often referred to as the “happy hormones”.  It’s important to look at the whole person even when working with mental health.  Could something with your physical body be impacting your mental health or vice versa?  Let’s find out.

For your spiritual health, we explore how you can find purpose in your life and connect to those around you.  It involves being more compassionate and empathetic to yourself and others.  Exploring your spiritual health does not mean religion though some people find religion to be helpful.  Your spiritual health is your own experience and your own path in integrating yourself and the world around you.

I assist individuals who are going through difficulties as they adjust to life’s events. However, it does not mean we need to be defined by these life events. It is my hope that those I work with will reach their full potential, regardless of life’s setbacks. If you’re struggling, please contact me so we can discuss where to begin.
