HomeFAQs

What You Need to Know

Starting therapy can bring up a lot of questions and that’s completely normal. Whether you’re wondering what to expect in your first session or how long are sessions, this page is here to help.

Below, you’ll find answers to some of the most frequently asked questions (FAQs) I receive. My goal is to make the process as clear and comfortable as possible so you can focus on what truly matters. Your growth and well-being.

If you don’t see your question here, feel free to reach out. I’d be happy to help.

How long does therapy last?

Therapy length varies for each person because it depends on your goals, the pace you’re comfortable with, and how much effort you put into the process. Typically, sessions begin once a week and may shift to every other week as you make progress. Many clients start with around 12 sessions, after which we review your goals and decide together how to move forward.

How long are your sessions?

Most sessions are 45–55 minutes. For specialized services like OCD treatment or EMDR therapy, sessions can go longer.

Do you take insurance?

Yes, we accept CareFirst/Blue Cross Blue Shield in Maryland and Aetna in Nevada. Insurance varies by state, so contact us for details.

It’s important to know that using insurance requires a formal diagnosis that becomes part of your permanent insurance record. While this may not affect most people, in certain careers or opportunities it can be a concern. Read more about it here. Insurance also limits session length and frequency. For example, EMDR often requires 90-minute sessions, but insurance typically only allows up to 55 minutes. Similarly, OCD treatment can require more intensive scheduling than insurance will cover.

If we’re not in-network with your insurance, you may still use your out-of-network benefits. We can provide superbills or connect you with a company that helps clients get reimbursed. For those paying privately, we also offer a sliding scale option on a case-by-case basis.

What are your rates?

Session rates are $200 for 45 minutes and $225 for 55 minutes. If you’re paying privately, we’ll provide a Good Faith Estimate (GFE) that outlines the expected cost of therapy. Since therapy is highly individualized, we can’t predict an exact number of sessions, but we often prepare estimates based on 12 sessions to give you a clear idea of potential costs.

What does the first session look like?

Our first session is focused on getting to know you. We’ll ask about what’s bringing you to therapy, your current struggles, and your history (family, childhood, relationships, etc.). This helps us understand your background and, if you’re using insurance, meet the requirement of providing a diagnosis. You’re always in control and you can share as much or as little as feels comfortable.

Where are you located?

My practice is 100% online using a secure, HIPAA compliant video platform. This allows you to access therapy from the comfort of your home or office.

    • In Maryland, we serve clients in Bethesda, Chevy Chase, Ellicott City, Potomac, Silver Spring and across the state.
    • In Nevada, we work with clients in Las Vegas, Henderson, Summerlin, Enterprise, and statewide.
    • In South Carolina, we provide therapy for clients in Charleston, Columbia, Greenville, and throughout the state.
    • In Vermont, we provide therapy for clients in Chittenden County and across the state.
Can I still see you if I'm not located in Maryland, Nevada, South Carolina or Vermont?

Unfortunately, I’m unable to be your therapist if you’re not located in one of those states. However, I can be your life coach. Coaching and therapy are different. Contact me if you’re interested in coaching or want to find out more.
