WHICH ON SOUNDS LIKE YOU?

Two different starting points. Both lead somewhere real.

YOU’VE DONE THE WORK

The High-Achiever Running on Empty

  • You’ve been in therapy before. You understand yourself well. But insight alone hasn’t been enough.
  • Childhood memories, attachment wounds or relationship patterns keep resurfacing no matter what you try.
  • You don’t have months to spend on weekly sessions. You need something that actually moves the needle.

This is EMDR Intensive territory ->

SOMETHING JUST HAPPENED

You want to get ahead of it

  • An accident, an assault, a loss, a critical incident at work. You know exactly what happened and when.
  • Since then, you’ve noticed flashbacks, a jumpy nervous system and/or trouble sleeping.
  • You’d rather address this now, while it’s still fresh, than wait for it to settle in.

This is Recent Trauma Intensive territory ->

SEE IF THIS IS RIGHT FOR YOU

THE EMDR INTENSIVE

What actually happens in the room

Your brain stores memories differently depending on whether it had the time and safety to fully process them. When something overwhelming happens without that space, the memory can get lodged in a raw form, still carrying the original fear or shame attached to it. That’s why a certain tone of voice or a passing comment can suddenly pull you somewhere else entirely.

EMDR uses bilateral stimulation, a back-and-forth pattern of eye movements or other input, to help your nervous system finish processing what got stuck. A weekly 50-minute session often means stopping right as something starts to open up. An Intensive gives us the room to stay with it until the charge actually settles.

Dealing with something that happened recently, not a longstanding pattern? The Recent Trauma Intensive below may be the better starting point.

01

Pre-Intensive Prep

90 to 120 minutes to clarify your history, your goals and the specific memories or patterns we’ll target.

02

The Intensive

3 hours of focused processing in 1 day, paced to your nervous system, with built-in breaks.

03

Integration

60 to 90 minutes to make sense of what surfaced and map how it carries forward into daily life.

THE RECENT TRAUMA INTENSIVE

When it just happened

01

Free Consultation

A brief conversation about what happened and whether R-TEP is the right clinical fit right now.

02

The R-TEP Session

Approximately 3 hours via telehealth. Brief stabilization, then focused processing of the recent event.

03

Follow-Up, If Needed

Some clients need one additional session to complete processing. We assess this together as we go.

Recent Trauma Intensives using the Recent Traumatic Episode Protocol (R-TEP) to work on traumatic experiences. It’s a version of EMDR built specifically for events that are still active in your nervous system rather than settled into long-term memory. Instead of working back through years of history, we target the event directly while the memory is still flexible enough to shift easily.

What counts as “recent” isn’t strictly about the calendar. Some events from months back are still held by the nervous system as recent and respond well to this approach. This is exactly what your free consultation is for: figuring out together which format actually fits what you’re carrying.

Carrying something longer-standing instead, like childhood patterns or relationship trauma? The EMDR Intensive above is likely the better fit.

BUILT FOR SOUTH CAROLINA

A state built on growth, service and holding it together

South Carolina’s fastest-growing corridors, Charleston’s medical and tourism economy, Columbia’s state government and university base, Greenville’s corporate expansion, are full of people whose professional lives look completely put together while something underneath keeps resurfacing.

The state is also home to a significant military and first responder population, Joint Base Charleston, Shaw Air Force Base, Fort Jackson and Marine Corps installations near Beaufort among them. For many in these roles, a recent critical incident is exactly the kind of thing the Recent Trauma Intensive was built to address, without a lengthy intake process standing in the way.

High-achieving professionals

Executives, physicians, attorneys and business owners across the state’s growth hubs who have outgrown what weekly sessions can offer.

Military and first responders

Active duty, veterans, law enforcement and emergency medical personnel dealing with a specific incident or accumulated occupational exposure.

Healthcare workers

Nurses, physicians and clinical staff carrying the weight of what they witness on shift, often without anywhere to put it down.

SERVING ALL OF SOUTH CAROLINA

Online across the state, wherever you are

Charleston

A medical and tourism hub, home to MUSC and a fast-growing tech scene, where plenty of high-functioning professionals privately carry more than they let on.

Columbia

The state capital, home to USC and a large state government workforce, plus close proximity to Fort Jackson’s military community.

Greenville

One of the fastest-growing corporate corridors in the Southeast, drawing professionals relocating for opportunity who are still carrying what they left behind.

Myrtle Beach

A coastal hospitality and tourism economy with a strong nearby military presence, where seasonal demands leave little room for a weekly schedule.

COMMON QUESTIONS

Before you reachout

How do I know if I need the EMDR Intensive or the Recent Trauma Intensive?

Generally, it comes down to timing. If you’re dealing with something that happened recently and is still active in your nervous system, R-TEP is usually the better starting point. If you’re carrying longer-standing patterns, childhood history, or trauma that’s been with you for years, the EMDR Intensive is designed for that. If you’re not sure, the free consultation is exactly where we sort it out together.

Does South Carolina insurance cover either of these?

No. Both formats are private pay. Because they use extended blocks of time rather than standard session lengths, they fall outside what most insurance plans are structured to reimburse. Many clients use HSA or FSA funds to cover the cost.

I already have a therapist in South Carolina. Can I still do an Intensive?

Yes. Many clients keep their existing therapist and use an Intensive as a focused supplement. You bring the context you’ve already built together, we do concentrated work in the Intensive, and you return to your regular therapist afterward if you’d like continued support.

Do I need to be located in South Carolina for every session?

Yes. Because this is telehealth, you need to be physically located in South Carolina (or one of Judy’s other licensed states) at the time of each session.

What if I start with the Recent Trauma Intensive and realize I need more?

That happens sometimes, and it’s a normal part of the process. If deeper or longer-standing patterns surface during a Recent Trauma Intensive, we can talk about whether a full EMDR Intensive makes sense as a next step.

Still have more questions? Visit my Frequently Asked Questions page.

You’ve already been carrying this. The question is how much longer.

A free 20-minute consultation is the only next step. A real conversation about which path fits where you are right now.
